First days in Bangui

On Wednesday October 10th, five European volunteers (Filip and Lenka from Czech Republic, Federica from Italy, Morgane from France and Jorieke from Belgium) and two volunteers from Central African Republic (Assania and Serge) arrived to Bangui. We were welcomed by Cheick Diallo, the representative of our local host organization France Volontaires. We settled down in our house and started to discover Bangui.

During the last week we met with several representatives of local organizations, we have gone through administrative procedures (visiting the French Embassy) and we started to organize our work. We attended two organizational meetings of  OCHA in order to inform the local humanitarian actors about out presence in the country and also to inform ourselves about the current security situation.

We spend a lot of time working online, studying resources, gathering maps and information about local actors. We also started an online security training of the United Nations, however the speed of internet connection makes it quite a challenge. Today we had a meeting with Lauren, the Information Management Officer for OCHA to discuss our future cooperation and priorities and needs for mapping in Bangui and in the whole country.
